Most of our trips are about adventure, exploration, and really digging in to see, eat, drink, and experience as much as possible during the journey. We spend entire days bouncing from destination to destination, learning everything we can and enjoying all that each country has to offer. But every year, we take a trip that’s dedicated completely to decompression–a respite from our busy lives to just sit by the pool or stroll by the ocean or drink and dine with good friends, and that’s all. There’s one place that accomplishes this better than anywhere else, and so we return there again and again each spring to relax and recharge. That place is the Hotel Mousai in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

This adults-only, all-inclusive designer resort boosts a AAA Five Diamond rating, and you know it from the moment you walk in. Between the rooftop pool, the musicians in the lobby, the flawless decor, and the lush gardens, it redefines luxury and pampering on a whole new level. We stayed in the penthouse suite, a 2,852 square foot palace with jaw-dropping views and beautiful furnishings. You can watch a video tour of our room by clicking on the player below:

When we weren’t relaxing in the penthouse, we were enjoying the gorgeous rooftop pool, stand-up paddle boarding, or indulging at the many fine restaurants in the area. I highly recommend Pepe’s Tacos for their delicious, authentic street tacos (especially the pork) and laid-back atmosphere. For a high-end dining experience, Le Kliff was hard to beat. If you go, try to book a reservation around sunset so you can watch the sun slip into the ocean from your table. La Palapa is also a fantastic place for sunset dining–ask for a table on the beach. Our last night, we ate at Hiroshi at the Hotel Mousai. This sushi restaurant is hands-down one of the best in the world, and it’s always full–so make reservations early!

If you’re looking for a place to be treated like a king (or queen) and to really unplug in luxury, you can’t go wrong with Hotel Mousai, or Puerto Vallarta in general! We look forward to our visit next spring!
