On May 30th, my wife Delinda and I celebrated the 5th anniversary of our restaurant in Golden, Colorado. This is the second location of our restaurant, Indulge Bistro and Wine Bar. We opened the firstone in Highlands Ranch in 2008, just as the economy took a significant nose-dive and we were forced to learn the ins and outs of the restaurant business in a hurry. After smoothing all the edges and working hard to develop a reputation in Highlands Ranch, we weren’t exactly looking to expand to another location. However, a regular guest invited a developer to join them at the restaurant and they loved it so much, they insisted we consider taking the restaurant spot in a building he was working on in Golden.
One thing we’ve learned in the five years since we opened the second restaurant is that location truly is everything. We chose our first location very carefully, considering that people living there would want a restaurant with a higher-end vibe amongst the chains and suburban fare of the southern flank of Metro Denver, and that the income levels in this affluent part of the state would support the concept we wanted to manifest there. However, what Highlands Ranch does not have (and which Golden has in abundance) is foot traffic, especially from tourists. While the Highlands Ranch location does very well financially, our Golden location generates twice the revenue of it because of this additional foot traffic from locals and tourists alike.
One of my fondest memories in these past five years is of our VIP Opening Party on May 1, 2012 (also Delinda’s birthday.) We had so many of our dear friends, family, and investors there to celebrate the beginning of this new chapter and everyone had such a great time. The best part? We’ve made money every single day since that first day.
This location is positioned beautifully on the corner of 13th in Washington in the heart of Golden, a jewel of a town situated at the gates of the Rocky Mountains, just west of Denver. It was formed during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush as a critical supply stop on the way into the mountains, and has since become a historically significant center of intellectual, scientific, and industry development. Housing not only the Coors Brewing Company, but the School of Mines as well, Golden attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to its charming streets and beautiful scenery every year. We are so happy to be a part of what makes Golden such a fun place to visit! (Learn more about Golden, and plan a visit soon, by clicking right here!)
